PPD Transforming Practice module - Introduction to Generative AI

An Introduction to Generative AI for Human-Centred Integration and Organisational Literacy (January to March 2025)

Module Lead: Dr Steven Watson

This 30-credit master's level course is designed for professionals looking to enhance their understanding of generative AI and its integration into educational and organisational settings. The course begins with a foundational exploration of the technical aspects of AI, covering essential concepts such as neural networks, diffusion models, and large language models. Participants will consider how generative AI processes context, meaning, and semantic structures, and its role in human communication and interpretation.

The course highlights the societal and educational implications of generative AI, examining its potential in various applications like content transformation, pedagogy, curriculum, translation, educational support, and emotional interpretation. Ethical considerations, including bias, misinformation, data privacy, and environmental impacts, are integral to the curriculum, ensuring participants can implement AI solutions responsibly.

Participants will also design and evaluate a small-scale AI integration project, employing participatory and research-based approaches to create meaningful, ethical applications within their organizations.
